Tadcaster Flood Alleviation Scheme consultation gets underway

A public consultation on a new flood alleviation scheme for Tadcaster has been launched.
The scheme, which is being developed by the Environment Agency, will see the construction of a new flood wall and embankment along the River Wharfe. The scheme will also include the installation of new pumps and flood gates.
The consultation will run until 12 January 2025. Members of the public are being encouraged to share their views on the scheme by completing a feedback form.
The Environment Agency is holding a series of public drop-in events to give people the opportunity to find out more about the scheme and ask questions. The events will be held at the following locations:
- Tadcaster Sports Centre, 5 December 2024, 3pm-7pm
- Tadcaster Library, 6 December 2024, 10am-2pm
- Boston Spa Village Hall, 7 December 2024, 3pm-7pm
Tadcaster has a history of flooding, with the most recent major flood occurring in 2015. The flood caused significant damage to homes and businesses in the town.
The new flood alleviation scheme is designed to protect Tadcaster from flooding up to the level of a 1 in 100 year event. The scheme will also provide protection against more frequent flooding events.
The Environment Agency is investing £30 million in the scheme. The scheme is expected to be completed in 2027.

« The scheme will provide much-needed protection to Tadcaster from flooding. We encourage everyone to take part in the consultation and share their views on the scheme. »
